Businesses Manage Expectations, Safety While Reopening Amid Coronavirus

Businesses manage expectations, safety while reopening amid ...

Businesses in multiple states across the country began to cautiously reopen on Monday, hoping to attract customers while maintaining safe social distancing measures.

A partial reopening went into effect in Florida on Monday in every county except Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach, while stores and malls began to reopen in Georgia.

South Dakota’s Smithfield pork processing plant took its first steps toward reopening after a two-week shutdown caused by a COVID-19 outbreak, and two counties in California broke with Gov. Gavin Newsom’s statewide shutdown order by allowing so-called “lower-risk” businesses to reopen.

Dr. Phuong Luu, the public health officer for Yuba and Sutter counties, said people would need to wear face coverings and practice social distancing in restaurants, gyms, salons, tattoo parlors, and other businesses.

Meanwhile, Florida restaurants and retailers could fill to 25 percent capacity, and uniformed law enforcement officers patrolled the state’s beaches to enforce social distancing. In Georgia, shoppers lined up to enter malls and shops, and were given masks to wear if they did not already have one.
