Just days after U.S. law enforcement officials warned about security vulnerabilities in the popular videoconferencing software Zoom, Elon Musk’s SpaceX rocket company has reportedly banned the app.
Use of Zoom and other digital communications platforms has soared as Americans remain isolated in their homes in the midst of the coronavirus outbreak.
SpaceX’s Zoom ban highlights the difficulties faced by aerospace manufacturers, who must simultaneously develop technology critical to national security and keep their employees safe from the virus.
SpaceX urged its employees to use email and phone communications as an alternative to Zoom. Stephanie Schierholz, a spokeswoman for NASA, confirmed that the U.S. space agency has also prohibited Zoom.
