Colleges and universities in Virginia have called off graduation ceremonies set for this spring.
A federal guidance urging people to avoid gatherings of more than 10 people in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic inspired the Virginia Community College System (VCCS) to cancel graduation ceremonies at its 23 state community colleges.
Meanwhile, the University of Virginia cancelled its commencement ceremony, “Final Exercises,” but said school officials were already exploring “creative alternatives.”
The University of Richmond also cancelled graduation, but promised to do everything in its power to reunite graduating students on campus.
Bridgewater College has called off all spring events, including graduation. George Mason University has postponed its commencement by one week, while James Madison University has cancelled its graduation fair but not the graduation ceremony.
