Twitter is responding to the coronavirus threat, requiring its personnel in Hong Kong, Japan, and South Korea to telework and “strongly encouraging” its other employees worldwide to follow suit.
The social media titan also has prohibited all non-essential business travel and events for its workers, including the upcoming South by Southwest media conference in Austin, Texas.
Facebook pulled out of that event as well, and it and other U.S. business behemoths are taking other precautions — even if on a lesser scale than many Asian heavyweights. Telecoms like AT&T and banking’s Citigroup, for instance, have restricted international travel and cancelled other conferences here at home.
